Dog Bites/Animal Attacks
Pet owners are responsible for ensuring that their pets do not inflict harm on others. If pet owners allow their pets to bite, scratch, maul or cause injury in some other way, the victim can take action.
The attorneys at Benjamin & Shapiro, Ltd. are here to help you take that action. We are here to help you pursue justice – the full, fair and complete compensation you deserve.
The Law and Animal Attacks
Under Illinois law, and the Illinois Animal Control Act, the people who “own” or “harbor” animals are responsible for all damages suffered by victims of any animal attack. This is true whether a case involves a permanent scar on a child’s face from the bite of a dangerous dog or whether a case involves an attack by a less likely animal, such as a cat. There is no “free bite” rule in Illinois, and animal owners are responsible for the injuries their pets cause, unless the animal was provoked.
